Medical Care
The needs in Cyprus of both patients and
foreign (temporary visitors) are met by the following organizations:
- Government General Hospitals - These exist in all major cities
on the Island.
- Private Clinics and Hospitals.
All Government General Hospitals and most private clinics have
Accident and Emergency departments for dealing with emergency cases.
Medical treatment and assistance is offered "free of charge"
to all International Tourists, in the case of health emergencies
at the Accident and Emergency Departments of all Government Hospitals/Institutions.
Outpatient and In-Patient treatment is provided against payment
of the relevant prescribed fees.
Holidaymakers can also use their Health Insurance Cover, which
is acceptable provided their health Insurance covers their stay
on the Island.
Where people do not have private health cover this should be arranged
as costs of medical treatment in Cyprus is expensive. Those in need
of cover can have it arranged for them through a facility arranged
by us. Whether you use us or someone else you must not risk your
health whilst on holiday. You must aquire cover that will meet your
needs and duration of your stay. Details of cover available supplied
upon request.
Most establishments, which cater for the tourist trade will be
able to summon medical assistance for its patrons should it, are
requested.
Those coming on holiday with a medical condition which requires
prescription drugs to be used, on a regular basis are advised to
bring a supply sufficient for the duration of their stay plus a
small reserve. This makes for common sense and does imply that what
you need cannot be obtained here.
Pharmacies
The Pharmacies on the Island compare very favourably with the rest
of Europe. Most requirements can be obtained without any difficulty,
provided you have the necessary prescription from a medical Doctor
to support your request.
There are duty pharmacies that are available during silent hours
to fill medical prescriptions prescribed by a doctor. The location
and contact details of the relevant pharmacy can be found in the
local daily newspapers that publish the roster.
You will also find a list of doctors who are "on call"
during holidays and at weekends published there also.
Private Doctors On Call
Private doctors on call during these periods can be contacted through
the following telephone numbers:
- Nicosia 1422
- Limassol 1425
- Larnaka 1424
- Pafos 1426
- Ammachostos 1423
The majority of doctors speak very good English.

(weekdays) are usually 0900 - 1300hrs and 1600-1900hrs
